As change continues to sweep along evolving South Congress Avenue, demolition crews have come for a site where luxury condominiums are planned along Austin’s premier street.
Leland South Congress is a seven story, mixed-use project set to rise at South Congress Avenue and East Live Oak Street. It will extend South Congress’ vibrant dining, shopping, entertainment and nightlife district, which bustles with locals and tourists southward into what is now a less active area.
Leland will replace the now-vacant Focused Care at Stonebriar retirement home at 110 E. Live Oak St. and two auto repair operations, one of which already has moved and the other a windshield repair and replacement shop that has just been razed.
The new development will have 265 residences – studios along with units of one to four bedrooms, with penthouses on the top floor. Plans also call for ground-floor retail and restaurant space, a fitness club, a sauna, a pool and deck, outdoor dining, a pet grooming area and other amenities.
Demolition work is expected to take about two to three months. Crews also will be doing site work to prepare for the construction of the condo building, which is expected to start early next year…
